When looking for a new home, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the choices, considerations and processes. Here are a few tips to keep your stress levels lower during your search for a new home.

Be open minded

You never know where or when you may stumble upon the perfect home. Don’t limit yourself to a narrow view of what your dream home looks like. I’ve had clients be completely taken off guard by how much they love a home that wasn’t what they had in mind at all at first. Be open to suggestions, and don’t get discouraged if you don’t find what you are looking for right away.

You can’t see them all

Yes, it’s tempting to tour as many houses as possible. But this approach can leave you feeling confused and overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices. Instead, make a “must have” list of features that are non-negotiable, and use that list to narrow down the choices of which houses to tour.

Don’t get emotionally attached

Sometimes the deal will not go your way. No matter how much you love the house, don’t get caught up in the tension of a bidding war. Stick to your predetermined price range, and have a backup just in case your first choice falls through.

Speak Up

If there is every anything you don’t understand, or you are faced with unexpected questions, don’t be afraid to ask for help! I make it a point to be available to answer all of my client’s questions at any point in the process. The home-buying process is difficult to navigate alone, which is why it’s great to have the support of a dedicated team behind you
