“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” The wise words of Winston Churchill remind us that there is no better way to understand the beauty of the Christmas season than to give back some of what we’ve been blessed with. Christmas is a great time to consider giving back to your community, and if you’re interested in enriching your life and the lives of those around you, here are a few ways for you to give back this Christmas season.

Wheeler Mission

Wheeler Mission serves the homeless in Indianapolis by providing shelter, food, residential and recovery programs for men and women. Wheeler Mission always accepts donations for it’s services, but one unique way you and your family could be involved in giving back to the homeless community in Indianapolis is by volunteering to serve a meal at the Wheeler Mission Men’s Shelter during the week of Christmas. Shepherd Community

Shepherd Community works to break the cycle of poverty with youth and families on the East side of Indianapolis. There are many ways to get involved with Shepherd Community, such as donating food or money to further their programs. You can also get involved by participating in their Hunger at the Holidays program, which provides totes packed with two weeks worth of food for each child to take home over Christmas break. Julian Center

The Julian Center provides assistance for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other life crises. The Julian Center has a number of ways to volunteer during the holidays, including hosting a food pantry or needs drive with your family and friends.
